Writing is a SITUATED activity, which means that each situation asks you to do something different with the style and organization of your writing. You will review examples of three genres of writing as systems of organization and style that have developed based on the situations they grew out of.

Following this activity, you will choose one of the genres to use as a guide to write about the issue/question you have chosen for this module. This activity should help you get started and help you to consider how structure impacts expression.

Part One:

In the attached organizer, please do the following:

· Explain how genre style and structure are related to the ideas expressed in the examples.

· Select one passage from each genre of readings that you feel is the most impactful, insightful, powerful; copy the passages in the organizer and explain what it is that makes you react the way you do to it. Use MLA style citations (in-text and Works Cited) to document the sources.

· Compose 2-3 sentences about your issue/topic in the style of each genre.
